As it usually happens at this time of year, I come back to you with my standard slogan: “give words, no plastic”. A particularly important topic of our time, in the age of ecological crisis, a book given to a loved one is one of the best eco-trendy gesture that can be made to our tired planet.

I could even say that maybe an audiobook is the best option, but unfortunately the act of learning how to read any written text is omitted there. Well, maybe the Kindle version of the book is the best idea. But in connection with the time that our children spend in front of screens of various types of devices, this idea isn’t so brilliant at it seems at first glance.

I myself am a believer of the paper book cult, and if I can choose, it is the printed version that suits me the most.

As for children, I could write here about great technological news and mega new sets of blocks. But not today. Not now, because the children of our time dedicate less and less time to reading. We, parents, dedicate less and less time to our children in general, and especially to reading together.

A book is such a beautiful, universal gift. Anniversary. Birthday. Christmas. Simple. Kind.

A book given to someone is a very gentle, non-binding gesture. A book is always a good idea to involve someone in a discussion.

A book is also an irreplaceable companion of games and plays, an educational toy. A quiet teacher and helper. A door to the land of fantasy and a creator of a warm evening ‘aura’ before falling asleep.

A well-chosen book is able to encourage even the most reluctant reader to start reading adventure. Sometimes you just need the right spark to make love for a good reading burst in flames.
