A Travel Companion Through Life Learning Ocean

How do you see your ideal travel companion through education? What should a modern teacher be like? How would you like him to be?

With passion and fortitude – the ingredients that today’s teacher we, as a family on the spectrum, would like to have and are joyful if we are lucky enough to meet such on our path.

We are far from the teaching method, with a teacher silently lecturing from the cathedral who recalls the content to be conveyed dispassionately. Modern society wants and needs a teacher who is a witness of time, lives actively, and therefore is not only able to transfer knowledge and teach science, but also testifies that he is not only a teacher, trainer, but at the same time is a person who offers children practical life lessons to be able to face everyday life, in their future.

Today, young people have greater potential thanks to modern technologies that allow them to communicate with the world, get information from the network, available 24 hours a day, from all kinds of fields.

What is needed nowadays is a stimulation of enthusiasm, passion, learning a positive attitude, education related to the learning process itself, interest in self-education, openness and diversity celebration.

The main purpose of teaching should be to draw students’ attention to a problem particularly close to their hearts.

The teacher should be serious but not grim, polite and warm. He should not have defects that he does not accept in others. Accessible and knowing the world in which his students live.

The teacher must be a teacher, an educator willing to see beyond what he sees when looking at his pupil. Not a friend, not a psychologist, not a parent, but a person who wants to help the student bring out the best by motivating, helping to find the desire to learn. It is not enough to lecture. The teacher must teach how to learn.

A teacher must have all these requirements: he must be honest, fair, consistent, charismatic, strong, forgiving, respectful, balanced, serious and open. The teacher must be prepared not only for his teachings but also for everything related to children’s problems. It takes passion and emotions to understand the intimate status and desires of the students, each student.

Being a teacher today means, above all, being inclusive and free from prejudice. Inclusive and bias-free means avoiding cataloging students in rigid and unchanging categories. Today’s teacher must be dynamic and have to have such a subtle skill that allows him to discover talents and resources. It is the work of a teacher who acts with courage and resourcefulness, without defensive tactics to avoid the worst. He looks for the best in each of the students, gives them confidence, encourages, helps and asks for their help.

Today teacher’s work is to make students feel important and necessary heroes. Being a teacher means caring for people, not just passing on school content. Take care of everyone without leaving anyone, even one!

Being a teacher today means being a source of inspiration: a promoter of culture from which children can derive what they need.

The teacher must kindle a spark of interest where it is lacking, and be able to cultivate students’ interests by serving their competences and professionalism.

I believe that the role of the teachers should be to support learning, and its goal is to create a calm and stimulating environment.

He should be able to set and direct his mentees to the goals they should strive for – how to be independent, motivated, interesting and creative. These are the skills and competencies that will accompany them throughout their life.

Nowadays being a teacher means setting a good example by showing respect, honesty, and loyalty. Being allies but also being assertive players, Not neglecting the meaning of rules, not by imposing them, but sharing their meaning.

Being on the side of the weaker, appreciating the effort of learning, enthusiasm, without stigmatizing unusual behavior and boxing single cases.

Ready and open to seeking explanations and willing to offer help.

Finally, being a teacher in today’s world of appearances means valorizing and celebrating imperfections without hiding your own shortcomings and defects.

And what I personally think is most important in being a teacher nowadays is joining families to create a common front of a changing society and the future.
