Sensory issues could be transformed in a sensory therapy. What? Is it possible? – you ask. Well yes. If you carefully choose materials to use pre-during-after bath time thats doable!
In our case bath problems was a real ‘what the heck?!’ thing because it came after a long time our son was fully enjoying his baths. So first we were surprised and we was wondering what happened? If there was some kind of ‘unpleasant surprise’ like soap in the eyes, to warm water or other annoying event took place. After a few episodes of the drama, we realise that the matter was much more complicated and complex.
We tried to use some tricks and encouragements. Initially just to make the bath tube more interesting and inviting we search for some smart and waterproof stuff we could use to just drag the kid into the bathroom. Music was powerful enough as he adores singing and dancing. We use music videos on the iPad to make him focus on. Not really waterproof but there are a lot of kids-friendly iPad covers you can use just to be sure it’s protected enough from water splashes and steam.
Another not easy to solve problem was ‘bubbles’. Kids on spectrum very often suffer from different kind of allergies what incredibly complicates everything, especially when it come to have a good time. Parents with allergy troubles know what I mean… So there is basically no product what can be used during the bath time which makes it more fun and enjoyable. We used soap-without-soap formulas to make some bubbles but the bubbles last not so long unfortunately. Colouring water salts and so on generally contain colorants, preservatives and lactic acid… buuuuu.
We found a corner in Imaginarium Store with numerous great and colourful bath toys for different ages and interests. They have a quite large range of toys you can use to encourage your little one. The products are really good quality, made with care. The company knows how to attract little players using not only well thought design by also teaches the principle of action-reaction. Water helps to stimulate psychomotor development and the importance of healthy hygiene style of life. Unfortunately they have no US Online Store but there are many websites offering online shopping of Itsimagical products like ToysRUs . Or you can find some web store in other nation listed on the Imaginarium site.
Otherwise just go to our good friend Amazon and ask for some good ideas. We did!
We found that great floating island with mom octopus with water pouring action and her eight colourful children. Tomy Toys Octopals – great bath toy, the little ones are squirters as well and they have a suction cup so they stick to the smooth surfaces. Every baby octopus features a different number that match with one exact space on the floating island. Every time the bath is over remember to carefully empty and dry the toy in order to prevent mold formation.
Have fun!
