Space Oddity – Part II

Because the universe is to explore and there is no limit made yet so feel free to check what would be a good idea in order to expand your little astronaut’s book collection and lab objects “must have”.

We are in constant motion here and we are always trying to spot something suitable for the age of 5 but that isn’t always the proper approach as we experienced this firsthand. Sometimes our expectations are too low and my kid is annoyed after 5 minutes because the item is not stimulating enough or he doesn’t even find it interesting because too ‘elementary’, too easy for his nerd’s attitude.

So basically we have a range of ‘space’ products that my kid is interested in that starts with creepy planet songs from YouTube and finishes with astrophysics and super scientific documentaries on Netflix.  Depends on the day and weather. Joking.

Here you can find some fresh reviewed items we purchased lately and which we found the great ones as all of them meet our family needs of learning and discovering what’s up in the sky. But also reading and focusing on simple descriptions and easy drawings.

1.Expanding Universe for those who love spectacular photography. Book published on the 25th anniversary of the Hubble Telescope launch. Absolutely  a ‘must’! Texts in English, German and French. The are several fold-out pages of larger images making it in panoramic view and the chapters are organized by distance from our planet. Quality of this book is extraordinary.

2. Living in space and Sun, Moon and Stars (Usborne)
Good introduction for space, solar system and an idea of universe for the little ones. Simple illustrations and informations make this books suitable for the reading beginners. Not so picturesque and ‘technical’ as the book above but  strongly recommended as a starter.Stars6Stars7

3. Super Space – National Geographic Kids Sticker Activity Book

Cool and not always very serious way to learn about our Planet, Solar System and the Universe. You will find it entertaining, colourful and educational. Games, mazes and drawing activities makes it more attractive for our curious astronauts. And over 1.000 stickers inside!Stars8

4.The Celestron Ultima 65 Zoom Spotting Scope – impressive optics regarding the price. Portable, waterproof and light. Comes with a cover so you can take it with you for a walk or travel without any problem. I’m not a specialist but it’s spectacular choice. We took it for Moon watching and it’s doing its job wonderfully.Stars4 Stars5
