Oliver Jeffers is an artist, illustrator and writer from Belfast, Northern Ireland and now lives and works in Brooklyn.
Oliver Jeffers is a great artist for those who likes short but brilliant and funny picture books for kids. He has his very own recognizable style to illustrate his masterpieces. Inventive plot and charming characters. The language he makes use of is just hilarious – easy but how colorful.
I’m a big fun of his short stories and it ‘s quite difficult to me to decide which title choose first.
Let’s start with “The Great Paper Caper” because there is a reason. The winter is already finished but the tale is like a CSI episode but suitable and ‘designed’ for kids!
All the story is set in the woods during a snowy winter. The forest is full of cute animals living their lives in peace and harmony. Suddenly they realise that little by little, tree by tree, the forest is being cut down. Oh no!
But there is a bear going around with the ax. Lets investigate!
A short story. A mystery. An investigation. Witnesses, crime scene examination and suspect questioning followed by a trial with happy ending. Short story but how full of surprises and unexpected events. Why is it so highly rated by me? Well, when you will know the story by heart you can engage in some creative activity. You can always plant a tree or make a paper airplane with your kid explaining not only botany and aerophysics but also teach kids nature preservation, enviromental problems and importance of recycling.
Oliver Jeffers children’s books are fascinating and uncommon is some ways. Such us our children by the way!
